Design
We have avoided putting a sound effect into the amplifier that may be out of style next year. Instead we use two selected field effect stages configured to optimize the Gate Induced Valve Effect (G.I.V.E.) first pioneered in the 800RB. This can be adjusted to fatten up your sound or to produce heavy overdrive. We have added an edge control to help you shape the sound to your situation.

Legacy heads operate from 100V to 240V, 50/60Hz mains, so you can take them anywhere in the world and simply plug in. No converters or special supplies required.

Status indicators tell you if there is a shorted output (oc) or over heated (ot) condition. Also, the standby indicator (stby) shows white when the power is off indicating the mains supply is good. If the input is overdriven the clip indicator will flash red.

Legacy heads come with a complete patch bay. The balanced DI has selectable Pre/Post and ground lift switches. Phones and Aux In are 1/8” jacks to accommodate the most common jacks used for these features. Tuner, Footswitch, Send and Return are all ¼” to better accommodate these connections. The included Footswitch turns the Overdrive Chanel on and off.

All GK amplifiers use a proprietary active, variable Q, serial four band equalizer, the Legacy is no exception. This type of equalization is unique to GK amplifiers and it produces an extremely wide range of usable tone settings. To further enhance the equalizer range, we have added three voicing filters Bump, contour and Presence, activated with toggle switches.

To get the best match between your instrument and the Legacy we have included an adjustable input trim control. When this is adjusted so the clip light only flashes occasionally you have the perfect setup for your instrument.
Technology
The Legacy heads use an interconnection system made with gold on gold connectors in concert with multilayer circuit boards instead of wires with crimped on, tin connectors. Gold connectors will never corrode, and the multilayer circuit board provides complete shielding from outside interference.

Legacy heads are cooled using two fans that are temperature controlled. At low temperatures the fans are off, as the amplifier temperature rises the fans come on slowly and run faster the warmer the amplifier gets. Under normal operation the fans may not come on.

Legacy heads use the latest available digital power amps with switch-mode supplies. These deliver a punchy driving sound at a fraction of the weight and power consumption of analogue power systems. They are safe down to two Ohms and operate from 100V to 240V mains.

An all-aluminum anodized package reduces weight and provides a durable finish that will never corrode or discolor. Extruded aluminum parts give the amplifier sleek look from all sides. The graphics are etched into the anodized finish and will never wear off or fade with time. Convenient handles provide knob protection and make moving a breeze.

GK produces all its circuit board assemblies in house using state of the art surface mount technology. Using this technology gives us access to far more material options for our designs and makes for a more reliable product.
THE 2019 LEGACY SERIES
The introduction of the 800RB in 1980 cemented Gallien-Krueger as a leader in Solid State bass amplification, with its signature growl, clarity, power, and features that were ahead of its time. The new Legacy Series of heads captures that same aesthetic while adding something all its own. From clean, clear, biting tones, to saturated overdrive, the Legacy series has it all. Coming in 500, 800, and 1200 watt class D models, The Legacy Heads are ready for the biggest stages, the smallest living rooms, and everything in between.
To improve performance and reliability, the Legacy Series uses a unique interconnection system that eliminates problems that can develop over time from constant vibration and temperature extremes that gear is subjected to with heavy use. Using circuitboards with gold plated connectors, rather than cables with standard tin connectors, this type of construction delivers a more pure, reliable sound. Features include GK's classic 4 band EQ, Overdrive complete with tone shaping, additional voicing filters such as "Bump", "Contour", and "Presence", Balanced DI with Pre and Post EQ, an Effects Loop, Aux and Headphone connections, and Load capacity selection, to deliver optimum power into 2, 2.7, 4 and 8ohm cabinet configurations.
